In 2018, the Mustang changed designs once again for a light refresh to keep in the spotlight. Everything from engine changes, front and rear redesigns, and completely new technology. All of which culminate in a more well-rounded package on the Mustang than ever before. Ford made sure to keep the Mustang relevant as the sports car market around the world changed and improved as new performance standards are being set constantly. With the reputation as Americaās best-selling sports car to uphold, the 2018 Mustang is the next step in this iconās history internationally.
One of the largest changes for the 2018 Mustang is the removal of the V6 engine option in favor of running the 2.3L EcoBoost as the base engine option. The V6 has been an option in the Mustang lineup since 1978 and had gone through various iterations until the 2017 model year. With the V6 in the rear view, the EcoBoost offers 310 horsepower and brings tons of on-tap performance to the entry level model. This engine is lighter weight and performs better with more customization available.
Along the exterior of the Mustang, there have been slight design changes to keep the car looking modern, sleek, and new. With a slanted front end and a more aggressively raked hood, the Mustang looks unlike any other car on the road. Around the rear, the taillights have evolved with the rest of the car, becoming more angular and stylized to match the front redesign. The new lights curve with the rear of the car, giving it a more modern appearance. Altogether, the subtle changes on the front and rear of the new 2018 Mustang.
Inside the car, the Mustang receives a major refresh in tech and style. With some new interior trim pieces, the Mustangās interior transformation has just begun. The outdated 6-speed automatic has been replaced with a more responsive and much quicker 10-speed 10R80 automatic transmission geared toward a combination of performance and daily drivability. This pairs well with the optional active exhaust on the GT, a first on the non-Shelby models which brings the throaty and aggressive engine note that the Mustang is known for to the surface. Not to mention, a quiet mode, too! This combination ensures that you hear every bit of your exhaust as you go through gears whether in a manual or automatic transmission Mustang.
To further improve the driverās experience behind the wheel of the Mustang, an entirely new dashboard setup can be had for the first time, bringing the Mustang even further into the future. With the addition of the newly-developed fully digital gauge cluster, drivers can go through the various driving settings with even more ease while also customizing the display gauge colors, settings, ambient lighting, and various other options to make the car truly their own. This is available across every trim level from EcoBoost to GT350 and brings the Mustangās newest design into the future.
