2004 Ford Mustang Specs & Details
The rounded and more bubbly style of the Mustang is coming to its end in the 2004 model year, and as a
result, Ford has made sure that the final year of the New Edge Mustang goes out with a bang. The final year of the
New Edge brings out a new color in honor of the ten-year anniversary of the body style being developed. Along with
the new color option, Ford is celebrating 40 years of the Mustang with a 40th anniversary trim level. As Ford gets
ready to revamp the Mustang for 2005, the last year of the New Edge SN95 Mustang prepares to walk out of the
limelight after this year’s last hurrah.
The most noticeable appearance package for the 2004 Mustang was the 40th Anniversary badging. However, along with the
badging, there is an optional appearance and luxury package which adds silver striping, new wheels, and an exclusive
Crimson paint option. Inside, the car features silver interior accents and larger headrests to make driving and
enjoying the Mustang even easier. These cars are intended to be collectible in the future, as Ford is only making
5,700 of the true 40th Anniversary Mustangs. With this, the Mustang can celebrate its reign as the oldest muscle car
on the market.
For 2004, the Mustang does receive some major updates to its powertrain settings. Notably, the V6 Mustang has gone
from a 3.8-liter motor to a 3.9-liters which keeps the same horsepower and torque figures. This change does not
alter much but helps move the Mustang towards a larger setup going forward. The other engines remain unchanged over
the 2003 model year with the top trim Terminator-powered Cobra holding at 390 horsepower through its Eaton
supercharger and independent rear suspension to keep it planted as it rockets down the drag strip or road.
Regarding the Cobra, Ford has broken the news that the Cobra will leave production after the 2004 model year as they
prepare for the 2005 Mustang to debut. However, before fading away, Ford is bringing back one of the craziest paint
options ever available on the Mustang and giving it a twist. The incredibly unique Mystichrome paint job is only
available for 1,010 of the Cobras and Cobra convertibles and pays homage to the Mystic paint offered on the 1994
Cobra too. This unintentionally terminated the Mustang’s main rival - the Camaro - which is being phased out of
production yet again, leaving only the Mustang remaining.
