2001 Ford Mustang Specs & Details
Two years out from its redesign, the Mustang took to the spotlight well for the 2001 model year. With the refined and
less bubbly styling of the 1994-1998 SN95 body style. The new sharper lines pair well with the drivetrain, and
the more powerful motor options ensured that the Mustang was not only competitive but more than powerful enough to
finally, take back the muscle car performance crown from the Camaro SS. Americ’s favorite muscle car is back and
better performing than ever before while also covering different demographics than ever before with new trim options
and better handling to match.
For the entry market Mustang, the Essex V6 remains as the engine of choice which provides 193 horsepower through
either a manual or automatic 5-speed gearbox. The interior remains a comfortable and ergonomically friendly space to
be in while also ensuring that the driver feels connected to the car. The GT receives the same plush interior but
externally improves the look further. With a more aggressive front end and wider rear tires, the GT is noticeably
more menacing than the base V6 model that slots below it.
New for the 2001 year, Ford draws on their movie heritage and has come up with the awesome Bullitt edition Mustang.
Available in Highland Green, True Blue, and Black, the Bullitt is loaded with brushed aluminum accents on the shift
knob, trim fixtures, and sport bucket seats that are dramatically more usable for high-performance driving than the
non-Cobra Mustang has ever offered. With lowered suspension, high-flow exhaust, improved engine intake, and larger
brakes, the Bullitt is designed to be a serious street racer like McQueen’s car was in the movie. The Bullitt is
slated to only be available for one year and in limited numbers of each color, making it a guaranteed collectible in
the future.
For 2001, the SVT Cobra sticks around and receives a boost up to 320 horsepower to be more than competitive. With the
independent rear suspension that debuted on this model, the new Cobra handles corners and hard driving better than
any other Mustang on the market. We’re hoping that the new suspension setup is here to stay and that it even works
its way over into the non-SVT Mustangs. The improved handling figures from the 2001 Cobra also show the benefit of a
high-powered motor paired with this rear suspension helps the car outperform the Camaro and Firebird in both
straight-line acceleration and around a racetrack.
