2000 Ford Mustang Specs & Details
One year out from the redesign, the 2000 Mustang stands out dramatically from the previous styling of the Mustang
that debuted in 1994. While the older style was rounded and styled to be more fashionable, the new Mustang focuses
more on the performance aspect than the previous by improving driving dynamics and power output. The sharp lines of
the New Edge body style are aggressive and intimidating to those driving alongside and trying to keep up with the
powerful new Mustang. With this new body style and design language, the Mustang fights tooth and nail to retake its
crown as the king of the muscle cars.
After the redesign in 1999, the 2000 Mustang moves forward with few changes to the V6 and the GT models. The base
trim features plush bucket seats with a curved dashboard to keep with the interior styling of early Mustang models.
Fitted with a nearly 200 horsepower engine, the base Mustang even has some kick to it when driven hard while the GT
pushes the driver back in the seat quickly under heavy acceleration with its 260 horsepower. For many people, that
is more than enough power to thoroughly enjoy the New Edge Mustang.
For the performance enthusiasts, Ford has kept the SVT Cobra running in the market this year too, giving drivers up
to 320 horsepower to roast the tires and independent rear suspension to keep the power down on the road properly.
Still new to the Mustang, the independent rear suspension setup is a welcome change as it brings the performance up
to compete against competitors from around the world who focus heavily on handling over straight-line performance.
The New Edge Cobra ties together the performance the Mustang has always deserved with the most aggressive modern
styling on a mass-market Mustang.
The top of the range comes from a new and highly-limited model. The new Cobra R is designed to be the best-performing
road-legal Mustang ever, and with the specs it has it isn’t hard to believe. Fitted with a 5.4 liter V8, the Cobra R
has nearly 400 horsepower, a functional rear wing, and front splitter, side-exit exhaust pipes, and lightweight
wheels to bring the package together. Designed to outperform just about every other ultra-high-performance model,
the Cobra R is the fastest and best-performing Ford on the market while also being the most expensive at nearly
$55,000 (circa 2000) and will only be built in very limited numbers.
