Fresh for 1994, the Mustang is back with an all-new look and much-improved performance over what it has been for years. The new SN95 chassis Mustang is built to be more sporty than a muscle car in order to fit in with the changing and growing market as more companies begin moving into the affordable coupe and convertible market. While running many parts from the Fox Body Mustang, the new SN95 model handles dramatically better than before by using the new aerodynamic design in tandem. Weāre excited to see the potential high-performance versions that this platform will bring in the next few years.
The engine options from the Fox Body carry over mostly with the 1994 Mustang, bringing the 3.8L V6 and 5.0L 2-valve V8 into the new body style. The new design frees up design creativity for the interior, which is now filled with curves, smooth lines, and comfortable yet aggressive seats. The bubbled dashboard shape feels more open than the one offered in the older model, giving the occupants a more breathable space. With clear-faced gauges, supportive seats, and a shifter setup that screams āperformanceā from any angle you look.
While the new Mustang is quite a bit heavier than the one it replaces, it feels planted around turns and is more usable daily as a regular car, especially with the V6 for daily use. The car does receive more power in order to fight the weight gain, doing so to some success in each model. With power increasing around 5-10 horsepower throughout, the Mustang still feels fast, and both the V6 entry model and the GT still push you back in your seat as you accelerate from a stop. The Mustang is now not only powerful but leaning towards luxurious almost.
The showstopper still remains as the SVT Cobra with not only its racing history but its raw and aggressive performance too. The Cobra now puts out 240 horsepower, up 10 from last year, and cruises easily well above the speed limit when needed. The Cobra also receives a more aggressive nose and venting on the hood for heat extraction. If high-performance is the main goal for your car, the Cobra is the end-all-be-all for the majority of people to buy from the factory as it sits. Accelerating to 60 takes only 5.7 seconds, finishing the quarter-mile sprint in under 15 seconds.
