The police have always had access to vehicles to at least keep pace when chasing criminals, whether through the state purchasing used cars or implementing vehicles confiscated from prior arrests, or through the vehicle manufacturer's development of police and service-use vehicles such as the Police Interceptor trim level vehicles. In some cases, these are vehicles not even offered to the public as is the case of the Caprice. Ford's use of the Explorer for their Interceptor vehicle brought benefits of size, power, and sheer presence, but faces hindrances even today.
Built for whatever the challenge may be, the Steeda SSV Explorer Police Interceptor can handle dirt, high-speed pursuits, and everything in between.
The Steeda SSV Explorer Police Interceptor offers the safety of the Interceptor with the performance handling found on our Mustang and other performance vehicle builds. We have put all of our experience with performance vehicles forward to ensure the Explorer Police Interceptor is as capable as possible when being used in pursuit. Cornering is flatter and smoother while also handling rough parts of pavement and dirt makes these vehicles more capable to protect the safety of others. Developed for optimum on and off-road performance, the Steeda Explorer Police Interceptor's suspension provided minimal body roll and reinforces the driving style needed when pursuing dangerous individuals while the optional tune on EcoBoost models makes chasing them down quicker and therefore ends the chase sooner.
Your build will start life just as any other Explorer Police Interceptor with either the 3.3L N/A V6, 3.0L Twin-Turbo EcoBoost V6, or Hybrid. To improve and further aid in pursuit use, we upgrade the suspension to handle corners and fight body roll, as well as adding additional bracing for the chassis to stay rigid and feel more planted around turns at high speeds. With subtle touches to the exterior, like our Steeda badging above the Interceptor plating and on the rear 3/4 window. This upgraded suspension allows the vehicle to properly corner without any fear about if it will stay properly planted on the road. For models equipped with the EcoBoost engine, an additional tune is available to give them well past the 400 horsepower the engine is designed to handle. Built properly with our upgrades, this Police Interceptor is ready to take whatever is thrown at it, whether it is tight switchbacks and winding roads or high-speed pursuits and takedowns, or anything else in between.
