Since the S550 Mustang launched in 2015, it has been an absolute revelation among the automotive and
Mustang enthusiast community. Ford ensured that it would bring the iconic American pony car to the
twenty-first century, with new technology implemented such as a first-ever independent rear suspension,
drive modes, modern soft-touch interior, and line-lock. Each Mustang generation has brought a unique
flavor of style and sophistication to the lineup; the same can be said about color choices. For the last five years, Ford has given enthusiasts the broadest color palette to choose from ever
among the Mustang stable. Each color offers a unique flavor to enable enthusiasts to provide
personality, customization, and style to their pony. Each year, throughout the S550 generation, it has
brought
enthusiasts something new to choose from and inspire them to create the perfect American icon in their
way. Our color and paint code guide will give you all the details on everything you will need to make the
right decision on your S550 Mustang or pick up the correct paint code for those pesky rock chips.
Upon initial launch in 2015, enthusiasts all across the United States and around the world were wondering
if the S550 Mustang would live up to the legendary herd of past generations.
After patiently waiting, it was revealed to the public in New York just as the original was in 1964 on
top of the Empire State Building. At first glance, its design language speaks nothing but Mustang! With
its trademark fastback profile like the 1965, 1967, and 1970 originals, the 2015 is the modern
interpretation of the American icon. Ford took advantage of the launch's timing because it happened to fall on the 50th anniversary of the
legendary American icon. Due to this, the Mustang team had a brilliant idea to put together the most
commemorative anniversary model to date. What they came up with was a unique styling package that would
pay homage to the original 1964-1/2 Mustang, launched in Wimbledon white. Only 1,964 were
made in this model with Mr. Bill Ford's signature on the dash plaque, to this day, collectors and
enthusiasts revere these Mustangs. Just as all Mustang models have been iconic, the S550 brought the pony to the twenty-first century in
style, sophistication, and performance. The Mustang wouldn't be what it is today without its fantastic
color options; these colors help bring out the tremendous design language and body lines. Below you will
see the complete lineup of shades that Ford offered during the first phase of the S550 Mustang from
2015-2017.
After three years of unbelievable success, Ford knew it was time to put
together a mid-cycle refresh to reinvigorate the Mustang community with something even more modern than
the initial 2015 Mustang. What came about was a more edgy and impactful design that gave the
Mustang a more aggressive look while maintaining Mustang lineage and design language. In 2018, the
Mustang received even more paint color choices, options, and models. After years of success of the
Cyclone V6, the
Mustang would no longer have a six-cylinder engine in the lineup
anymore replaced by the 2.3L
EcoBoost 4-Cylinder Turbo.
Things started to heat up, especially in 2019, when Mustang engineers announced they would be bringing
back a modern interpretation of the legendary Mustang Bullitt to pay homage to the
original. More importantly, enthusiasts from all across the United States were anxiously waiting for the
official unveiling of the most venomous Shelby GT500 ever to come from the factory to date. In January
of 2019, Ford unveiled the highly anticipated 2020 Shelby
GT500 with the Predator 5.2L
Supercharged V8 engine. Along with the debut, it would come with a plethora of new color options,
including Ford Performance Blue, Twister Orange, and Grabber Lime, to name a few. Below you will find all the latest colors within the S550 Mustang lineup from the last 2-3 years.
Furthermore, Ford will unleash an even broader color palette to the stable in the 2021 Mustang
model year.
The S550 Mustang has been a massive success since the start, and the 2021 and 2022 models are following
the same trajectory. While some trims such as the GT350 and the Mustang GT Performance Package 2 have
died off, new trim levels such as the Mach 1 have replaced
them in both their niche in the lineup but on the track as well. As Ford gets ready to replace the S550
generation of the Mustang with the yet-to-be-seen S650, they have brought out some new colors that truly
stand out as a bit of a last celebration of the generation. Ford also has decided to share its color pallete with other vehicles they develop, leading to crossover
colors from vehicles like the Bronco and even the F-250 Super Duty in some cases. Some colors are
entirely new, such as Mischievous Purple
which is the first time Ford has done a purple color since the
1997 Ford Windstar minivan. Image Credit: Ford Motor Company2015-2023 Mustang Paint Codes & Colors
