Meet The Team: Matt Henschke's Single Turbo Fox Body
The Fox Body is an incredible platform and this 1991 GT shows how capable these cars are. Put together over more than 15 years, Sales Associate, Matt Henschke, built this Mustang up into a seriously high horsepower street car to enjoy on the strip and around town equally. As one of the few Mustangs Henschke has owned, he knew to build this one up with a very specific set of parts to help it toe the line ofa classic drag car and comfortable modern daily driver. This car has been built to handle roads easily before being driven to the track and running insane times down the strip.
This car has been fully modified away from the factory Mustang, pieced together with an upgraded engine, suspension, transmission, and more. With a 67mm single turbo, Trick Flow heads, Tremec TKO 600 gearbox, Ford Performance Boss block and quite a few other pieces of kit bring the car to around 630horsepower at the wheels. Henschke focused heavily on the performance aspect for the suspension as well, with Steeda's Weight Jacker control arms and some serious rubber around the back to handle the 11+lbs of boost from the Hellion kit. This build took creativity, ingenuity, and most of all a desire for more horsepower to get to the point it is at today.
About Matt Henschke Q&A
Do you have any plans for this car going forward?
At this point, not really. Outside of getting a new clutch installed sometime soon, the car is pretty much complete already since I've had it this long. I just want to get this clutch done and take it to the drag strip sometime when I can.
How many Mustangs have you owned?
I've had a few so far. I had a 1986 V6 Mustang convertible in high school that I got rid of for a 1991 LX V8 in junior year. I had that one for 10 years before someone stole it,stripped it for parts, and ditched it in a junkyard. I got this to replace it and told myself I'd build this one properly, no cutting corners or anything.
What's one of your best memories with this car?
So after finishing this rendition in 2019, I got to help in the Patriot Run after bringing the car down toPompano after tuning it on the dyno on Friday. I got to help lead the run down to Gilbert's in the Keys, even with having to stop a lot because the car was on E85 at the time. I had my wife in the passenger seat and my kid in the back for it.
