How To Clean & Oil Your Cold Air Intake Filter

Maintaining your vehicle’s induction system is crucial for any car enthusiast or daily driver. One often overlooked component is the cold air intake filter. Keeping this filter clean and properly oiled ensures optimal air flow to your engine, enhancing its power and fuel efficiency. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of clearing and oiling your cold air intake filter, helping you keep your vehicle running smoothly and efficiently.

Step 1: Removing The Air Filter

  • Using a 5/16th socket, loosen the hose clamp keeping the air filter in place.
  • Set aside the hose clamp for reinstallation
  • Removing the CAI Air Filter

Step 2: Cleaning The Air Filter

  • Spray down the Air Filter with the cleaning fluid (or degreaser). Note: Make sure to spray thoroughly to properly saturate it
  • Spray the degreaser onto the outside filter

    Spray the degreaser onto the inside filter
  • Submerge the filter in water to let it soak.
  • Submerge the filter into water

    Fully submerge the filter into water
  • Remove the filter from the water and let it dry.
  • Remove the air filter from the water

    Let the air fitler dry

Step 3: Re-oiling The Air Filter

  • Starting at the top of the filter run a line of oil all the way around the filter
  • Run a line all the way around the filter

    Run a line all the way around the filter
  • Let gravity work the oil down the filter. Note: It may take a few applications to fully saturate the filter with oil.
  • Run a line all the way around the filter

Step 4: Reinstall the Air Filter

  • Reinstall the Air Filter and tighten the hose clamp.
