The original 335-hp, 428 Cobra Jet big-block Mustang debuted at the 1968 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California and never looked back! That's 50 years of record-breaking history that can be attributed to this beast of a drag car, solidifying the Mustang Cobra Jet as an all-time great. However, we're here to talk about the MONSTER that is the 2018 Cobra Jet Mustang! Ford announced the purpose-built drag car will feature a limited production run of 68 non-VIN cars available in Race Red or Oxford White, with final ordering information to be released over the summer. As Ford stated in their media release, the car
"...includes a supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote V8 and unique four-link rear suspension, along with a Ford 9-inch solid rear axle from Strange Engineering. Race add-ons include NHRA-certified roll cage, Racetech FIA seats, and a drag race-specific coil-over suspension with specially designed Weld Racing wheels with 50th anniversary badging."
It will be the fastest and most powerful Cobra Jet to date, capable of a mid-8 second 1/4-mile at around 150mph. That's FAST! Unfortunately, there aren't further specs at this time, but with the information we have, there's no doubt it will be turning heads wherever it goes. However, that'll be limited to the drag strip, since the absence of a VIN-number means the car cannot be registered to drive on the street.

For those of you true Blue-Oval fanatics, we can't forget that the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon boasts 840 horsepower, with an alleged 9.6-second quarter-mile at around 140mph. So go ahead and put a smile on your face and shout it from the rooftops - the Cobra Jet will do around a second better and 10mph faster down the drag strip than it's Hemi-powered counterpart.
