It was a busy weekend for Team Steeda as we headed to the NMRA Bradenton Shootout to show and run our 2018 "Silver Bullet" naturally aspirated Mustang GT, as well as heading to Palm Beach International Raceway with our #20 Q500R for the SCCA South Atlantic Road Racing Championship Series (SAARC)!
As it turns out, our 2018 Silver Bullet Drag car is just a freak of nature that likes to break hearts and hurt feelings. Every day it goes down the 1320 it breaks its own World Record. On Saturday at the NMRA Season Opener in Bradenton FL, we made a pass for our True Street test hit at full weight (100% full factory interior including floor mats) and the team beat it's previous best of a 10.98 @ 126.35mph with a 10.96 @ 126.83mph! The only change in the car was the addition of a QA1 Carbon Fiber driveshaft, which clearly made a positive impact on the car with the improved result. Sunday yielded a potentially better run, but only the 1/8-mile stats were made available, so we don't want to jump to conclusions.
After Bradenton, it was time to drive the Silver Bullet home to Valdosta, Georgia as our team is headed back to SGMP this weekend to try and improve that 1/4-mile time. With cooler temps expected in South Georgia Friday, we can't wait to see what it does! Just 150 miles west of Bradenton, Steeda VP, Glen Vitale was in charge of piloting our yellow #20 Q500R T1-Class race car in the SCCA SAARC Series at PBIR. We further tested our the car setup that we ran last month at Sebring, verifying handling consistency on various tracks and pavements.
We're thrilled to report that the improved front roll-center from our new Lateral Links enhanced cornering grip and reduced lap times at PBIR by 1.5 seconds. We not only finished first in our SCCA Touring 1 class on both Saturday and Sunday, but also won first place overall in our racing group for both days beating out other T-1 as well as GT-2 competitors. The video below shows Glen's patient, but skilled driving as he makes a pass on one of the GT-2 Mustangs.
We'll continue to fine-tune our new setup and believe there's even more speed to be found in this car. Stay tuned!
