Many Mustang enthusiasts know the benefit of improving their car's intake system as a way of making more power. Over time, this understanding has led to the development of different forms of intake systems for each different motor. With the development of the Coyote V8, Ford showed how performance-oriented their V8 models could be without being a specialty variant such as the Cobra or Shelby. To improve performance in the upper RPM range, intake manifolds were improved countless times before developing some of the highest-performing setups for the Coyote motor ever.
With the first generation of the Coyote V8, the Boss 302 intake manifold and Cobra Jet manifold were incredibly popular upgrades for racers on the drag strip and on the race track alike. These manifolds were designed in order to help the S197 Mustang push more power while at a higher RPM than before with negligible change throughout the rest of the RPM band. Their free-flowing design, lightweight, and when paired with the proper mounting hardware can provide you with improved performance when racing or simply when accelerating harder than normal. These are the perfect addition to any first-generation Coyote motor that gets driven at its limit.
Here at Steeda, we have been upgrading, modifying, tuning, and racing the Mustang for over 30 years and in that time we have seen firsthand which parts are beneficial during high-performance racing. These intake manifolds have shown themselves time and time again to be high-quality and affordable methods of making the S197 perform better in autocross, top-end RPM when drag racing, and are perfect on road courses. We run these in our personal vehicles when we race in addition to using them daily in order to prove how usable they are in everyday use.
